Foodvalley is the leading agro-food centre of Europe: the top region for knowledge and innovation in healthy and sustainable food! This region is not only renowned for its food-related expertise and technology, but also for its outstanding infrastructure and facilities for living, working and recreation. The Foodvalley region is a framework of cooperation involving eight municipalities (totalling 350,000 residents) with many educational institutions and businesses.
Entrepreneurs, students and jobs
This is a top region for a top sector. Foodvalley combines science, business and research institutes internationally with a single focus on food. Wageningen University & Research (WUR) is the expertise heart of the region and accommodates researchers and entrepreneurs from all over the world on its architecturally unique campus. Here you can also find the currently operational Friesland Campina R&D centre and, as of 2019, the Unilever R&D Division. The World Food Center in Ede, which is planned for mid-2020, is another asset for the region.
Throughout Foodvalley, relevant knowledge is present at all levels. Foodvalley facilitates and incentivises collaboration between educational institutions and businesses in the region. Educational institutions in Food Valley include a world-renowned university (WUR), several universities of applied science and schools of secondary vocational education, as well as Rivers International School.
Although food is the main priority of our region, Foodvalley accommodates many other types of businesses and organisations. In particular, the service sector, ICT companies, the metal processing industry and the transport and logistics sector are strongly represented. Leading institutes include Marin, Meteo Consult and CROW.
In order to closely monitor developments concerning the European agendas on food and regional policies, Foodvalley is represented in Brussels,. From its office in the House of the Dutch Provinces, Foodvalley maintains strong relationships with various European institutions and other European food regions.
The Foodvalley region is centrally located in the Netherlands, only one hour from Schiphol and one-and-a-half hours from Düsseldorf. Moreover, the region is easily accessible by rail (Intercity Ede-Wageningen) and by many motorways.
The people living in this region, which includes the very scenic Gelderse Vallei, Utrechtse Heuvelrug and Veluwe areas, are relatively young. It is a region with a rich history, attractive nature reserves and landscapes and a comfortable living environment, combined with excellent facilities and unparalleled possibilities for recreation, ranging from the Utrechtse Heuvelrug to the National Park De Hoge Veluwe with its Kröller-Müller Museum. This museum has the world's second largest collection of Van Gogh paintings. What's more, the only giant pandas in the Netherlands can be admired at the Ouwehands Dierenpark in Rhenen.
